A study of Henry the horse

19°, partly cloudy, calm winds

What to say about Henry.  We’ve been partners for 6 years now and he still manages to teach me, surprise me, and bring me great joy.  He was a cast off from the racetrack and found me through a very circuitous route.  The first day I saw him I was shooting photos of a farm with many horses in the pastures.  I didn’t know he had me until I came home and saw an unusually high percentage of images of one wary, 4 year old bay Thoroughbred in my edit.

He is a proud horse, but also slow to trust. He is a fiesty horse, but also appreciates being grounded.  He is a socially savvy horse, but also game to shake things up.  I think he’s taught me more in our years together than the many I’ve been riding.  And now that he’s home the language between us is many times silent.  Often an idea, or the suggestion of an idea, is all it takes have a conversation.
